MSA (Motor Sport Association) Medicals
The race driver medical is undertaken to MSA standards during which a detailed examination is performed. All applicants over 18, applying for an initial car, truck or kart race licence need a MSA medical examination. Those over the aged over 45 need an annual medical examination to continue in motorsport.
For those applying for the first time, you should receive a ‘Go Racing’ pack from the MSA which will include a medical form which you should bring with you to the examination. The medical involves taking a full medical history and general physical examination including blood pressure, heart, neurology, musculoskeletal system, vision testing and a check for colour blindness. You will also have to provide a urine sample for dipstick analysis to exclude diabetes.
Some drivers under 45 (International Licence) may require a resting ECG which can be undertaken at Examinair at the time of the medical. International Drivers over the age of 45 may require a 2 yearly Exercise ECG. This is a hospital based test and we are happy to liaise with a local cardiologist to arrange this for you.
